Arts & Culture Council of Burlington
The mission of the Arts and Culture Council of Burlington is to advocate for the arts and culture of Burlington, ON and to increase appreciation, support and involvement with arts and culture in the community.
Original Objectives (2013)
1. A funded external, arms-length Arts Council. This organization will cultivate and champion artistic development in Burlington and is key to ending our history of isolation in this City. It will give us a platform to organize and make ourselves more self sustaining.
2. A distinct Arts & Culture department within the City. This will help the city be more effective and provide a clear internal system with which we (as the Arts Council and Arts Organizations) can interact. Having qualified, dedicated Arts & Culture City employees to work with the Arts Council and carry out the Cultural Action Plan is key to promoting and developing arts and culture throughout the City.
3. Grants for Arts & Culture makers in the City. Develop a grant program to support Artists and achieve the City’s economic and cultural goals. In order to make this an innovative city investment in Artists are necessary.
4. Space. Spaces for Arts & Culture activities are too expensive and too few - we need significantly better rates, more space for us to realize our aims.
