Drury Lane Theatrical Productions Inc.
Originally founded in 1974 as the Burlington Light Opera Society, we changed our name to its' present form to reflect a change in the type of musical theatre that we present. In our early years the playbill was more weighted to Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
We gradually began to perform more Broadway musicals and have also introduced The Olde Tyme Music Hall. A patron favorite, this show is so popular that we now mount the production for a six week run. Even then, the majority of the performances are sold out.
Our thriving group is committed to excellence, and providing both the best possible musical experience and the best possible audience setting for you, our patrons. With the aid of many donations from our generous audiences, the support of the City of Burlington to upgrade the exterior of "The Loft" and a Trillium Foundation grant we have embarked upon a large renovation programme. This support has raised about one half of the required capital, and because of our sound financial status, we have been able to borrow the additional funds to carry out our long term goals.
There are many changes that our theatre goers will notice. The new entrance at the back of the building is bright and spacious. A new ticket booth, which is located at the foot of the stairs, allows better access for those coming to the shows or picking up tickets. The stairs now bring you into the main hall at the side and there are now 3 tiers of the viewing area at the back of the hall so that visibility is improved. After 4 years of fund raising we have installed an elevator. The next phase will include the renovation of our existing bar and kitchen areas and the installation of washroom facilities on the main theatre floor level. This will allow us to extend our entertainment to more senior citizens and to the physically challenged.
We believe Drury Lane Theatrical Productions, a company of dedicated amateurs, to be one of Burlington's premier Musical Theatre groups.
