BURLINGTON CULTURAL MAPPING

Burlington Public Library (BPL) is a large urban Canadian library system with seven locations citywide: six full-service branches (Aldershot, Alton, Brant Hills, Central, New Appleby, Tansley Woods) and a small lending collection serving the rural hamlet of Kilbride. Library service began in Burlington in January 1872.

The Library belongs to everyone in the community and is free to join if you live, work, or go to school in Halton Region. Every person, regardless of differences, has access to a vast array of resources onsite and online, services, and programs for all ages within a safe and welcoming environment. It is a popular local gathering place and a portal to the global community through the Internet.

Central Library is the largest location and houses historical and special collections, a computer lab, meeting rooms for public rental, in addition to departments responsible for system-wide administrative and library services support. Burlington Public Library is a tax-supported registered charitable organization.

A City-appointed citizen Board governs the Library, with a Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing its operations. Brian Kenny is the current Library Board Chair and Lita Barrie is the CEO. Burlington Public Library is a tax-supported registered charitable organization.
